On the early mourning of 18th March 2021, East African states joined Tanzanians to mourn the death of their fallen leader President John Pombe Magufuli.
The shocking news had been made public earlier in the midnight of 17th March the previous day by Tanzania’s Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan said the 61-year-old president had died of a “heart condition”, which he had suffered for 10 years at a hospital in Dar-Es-Salaam.
According to Tanzania’s Constitution, Hassan, 61, should assume the presidency for the remainder of the five-year term that Magufuli began serving last year after winning a second term.
