Comedian-turned-activist Eric Omondi has once again stepped up to help the less fortunate, this time offering to build a house for a homeless man who was recently evicted from his makeshift shelter in Nairobi.
Homeless Man’s Eviction Sparks Public Outrage
The heartbreaking incident unfolded when Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi’s Chief Environment Officer, led an operation to remove street dwellers. The affected man, who had built a small roadside shelter using sacks and blankets, pleaded for compassion, saying he had not eaten the entire day.
A video capturing the moment showed the man desperately begging Mosiria’s team:
“Tuheshimiane. Kama umekula chakula mapema, sisi hatujakula. Kutoka asubuhi, hatujakula chakula. Tuheshimiane.”
Despite his emotional appeal, he was forcibly removed. What angered Kenyans further was Mosiria’s dismissive response, claiming the man had a mental disorder and should be taken to Mathari Hospital.
Eric Omondi Steps In
Moved by the man’s plight, Eric Omondi took to Instagram to announce his intentions to help.
“Where can I find this guy…This video is extremely heartbreaking. This guy represents most Kenyans and the situation on the ground. Huyu tutamjengea kanyumba kadogo. Please help me find him,” wrote Omondi.
Eric’s compassionate response was widely praised, with many applauding him for doing what authorities should have done in the first place—offering real solutions instead of forcefully evicting struggling individuals.
Eric Omondi’s Track Record in Charity Work
This isn’t the first time Eric Omondi has extended a helping hand to those in need. Recently, he built a house for Faith Kathambi, a woman from Kisii who was brutally assaulted by neighbors over allegations of stealing a packet of flour. Omondi not only provided her with a new home but also raised funds to support her financially.
As the debate over Nairobi’s handling of homeless individuals continues, Omondi’s efforts stand as a testament to the power of individual action in making a real difference.
