The Maa community is in mourning following the sudden death of Gracious Teiyan Meyoki, a beloved content creator and pillar of the Mount Kenya University Maa Student Association (MKUMAA). She passed away on Tuesday, September 16, after being rushed to the hospital days earlier with severe headaches.
According to reports, Teiyan was admitted to hospital on Sunday, September 14, following complaints of intense pain. Despite receiving treatment, she succumbed to her illness, leaving family, friends, and followers devastated.
Citizen TV reporter Stephen Letoo shared the heartbreaking news, revealing that he had spoken with Teiyan just a week prior. She had invited him to her boyfriend Paul Simat’s graduation ceremony. Letoo described the loss as shocking and said the entire Maa community feels the blow of her passing.
“Her passing after such a short illness is not only a big blow to the family but also to the entire Maa community. I can only imagine the pain the family is going through right now,” Letoo said. He confirmed that Teiyan had complained of severe headaches just before being admitted to hospital.
Teiyan’s impact extended beyond social media. A friend wrote, “It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of our dear comrade Gracious Teyian Meyoki. She was not only a sister and a friend but also one of the greatest pillars behind the foundation of the Mount Kenya University Maa Student Association (MKUMAA). Grace was a true inspiration, a leader who believed in unity, culture and education as tools of empowerment.”
Gracious Teiyan will be remembered for her passion, wisdom, and selfless spirit, which inspired both her peers and the broader community. Her contributions to MKUMAA and her work as a content creator have left a lasting legacy.
Her passing has left a void in the Maa community and social media circles, and tributes continue to pour in as family, friends, and fans mourn her untimely death.
