Maureen Kunga, formerly of the Elani Music Group, has officially stepped into her solo career with the release of her debut single, Majaliwa. The song is now streaming on all digital platforms, including YouTube, marking a new chapter in her musical journey. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHtTnzQ7BDs

Majaliwa is a dedication to Maureen’s mother, celebrating love, guidance, and resilience. “My mother is my everything. Majaliwa is a dedication to my mum,” Maureen told TUKO.co.ke. The song reflects destiny, divine will, and gratitude, highlighting the lessons and encouragement that shaped her life and career.

Speaking about going solo, Maureen described it as a personal homecoming. “Stepping into my solo career feels like a homecoming to myself. It’s about finding my own voice and courage after years of growing, learning, and sharing space in a group. Musically, it’s a chance to pour out all the stories, emotions, and melodies that have lived inside me, bold and unfiltered and true to who I am today.”

She contrasted this new chapter with her time in Elani Music Group. “The group was a beautiful season of family, friendship, and shared dreams. This chapter is deeply personal. It’s me standing on my own, embracing vulnerability, stepping into my purpose and carrying both the weight and the joy of my own vision. It’s both scarier and more freeing, and that makes it all the more exciting.”

Majaliwa, co-written by Maureen, was inspired by her mother’s guidance, particularly a conversation they had during her law school years. “There is a lyric in the second verse based on a real conversation: ‘Nasisitiza sana ulivyosema, soma, elimika, wee imba.’ It reminds me of her encouragement to finish school before pursuing my dreams. I had to show her my appreciation for that.”

Maureen hopes her fans will connect deeply with the song. “I want them to hear themselves in my music, whether it reminds them of their own families, struggles, or victories. Majaliwa and the songs coming after it can be a soundtrack to someone’s healing or joy.”

The singer admitted that starting a solo career came with challenges, including facing doubt and rebuilding from scratch. “Every step has taught me patience, resilience, and to trust the timing of my life. Beginnings are never easy, but they are always worth it.”

Maureen Kunga is also a married woman. She tied the knot with her partner in September 2019, a year after their traditional ruracio ceremony. She has kept her love life private, rarely publicizing personal milestones.

With Majaliwa, Maureen Kunga begins her solo journey, blending heartfelt storytelling with musical talent, while honoring the lessons and love of her mother. Fans can stream the song across all major platforms and watch the official video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHtTnzQ7BDs
