So what do graduates need to understand so as to stand out in the job market?

First and foremost, the choice of the degree has to be addressed. It’s no secret that your chances of securing a well paying opportunity will depend on the degree you chose to pursue.

With regards to that, I have enlisted the top degrees that will get you a job faster if you pursue them.

1. Degree in Accounting

As they always say, Accounting is one of the most sought after professions. Studying the profession will always guarantee you a job because of the numerous opportunities it has.

This is because of the need of a number of companies in Kenya who need accountants to look into their finances. This explains why you will always find an accountant in most companies.

2. Degree in Marketing

This is one of the fastest growing careers. In any business, marketing is a very important aspect since it contributes greatly to the success of the organization.

Any employer would want a marketing professional who would be responsible for covering advertising, promotions, as well as maintaining the image of the company.

If you have a strong understanding of the marketing dynamics in Kenya, you are headed for a great future.

3. Degree in Information Technology

An IT Professional who has strong ICT and networking skills will always get a job regardless of the level. As businesses have become very competitive, there is always a growing need to have an IT professional so as to stay ahead, especially because we live in a technology dominated world.

The industry has also helped in the creation of new and interesting jobs like mobile banking, and Web designing among others. These jobs are not only available, but pay very well.

4. A Degree in Procurement Will get you Job Faster in Kenya

Procurement is one of the fastest growing professions in business. With the current economic outlook, companies are turning to procurement professionals to deliver growth and improve margins.

Procurement Professionals are charged with the responsibility of company’s purchases and this helps to open great career options in the industry like Purchasing and Supplies among others.

If you are interested in a Procurement Job, Jumia is hiring job seekers with a degree or diploma in Procurement.

5. Degree in Engineering

With an engineering degree, you can expect a wide range of employment opportunities as this is one of the well paying professions. An engineering career is also lucrative and most engineering graduates receive the highest paying starting salary, which explains why engineers earn six figure salaries.

If you have a degree in either of the above courses, consider yourself lucky because your employment chances are very high.
