Police who had camped inside and outside Uhuru Park were withdrawn today early morning as Nasa Supporters and leaders started streaming in the show ground for their big ceremony which is said to take place in the afternoon.
The police manning Nairobi county had also insisted earlier that Uhuru Park was no go zone since the NASA coalition had not informed the police of their ceremony in good time.
Besides, police have let them access the grounds and proceed with their event.
I’m reading on the press that so and so will be at Uhuru Park, which I’m not likely to allow because if I allow there will be a confrontation and people will be injured. You have heard several groups want to use Uhuru Park on the same day. Tell them we love this city and we will guard it jealously. We will not allow breach of peace,” said Police boss Japheth Koome.
Nairobi Business community had stated that they had booked the same event for their circumcision ceremony, but they have not been spotted today or anywhere else near the grounds.
The event has caused minimal traffic in town as most of the roads have been left deserted
NASA had saied on Monday though Norman Magaya that they will proceed with their event
“We are swearing in Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as the President of the Republic of Kenya and not People’s President. We have no intention whatsoever to change the venue for this ceremony. Option one is Uhuru Park, option two is Uhuru Park, option three is Uhuru Park and if option three is not possible, then the only option is Uhuru Park,” said a defiant Magaya in an interview on KTN News.

As stated before, we have a qualified judge who will undertake this process. We expect it to run smoothly,
According to the Assumption of Office of the President Act; “The swearing in of the President-elect shall be in public before the Chief Justice, or, in the absence of the Chief Justice, the Deputy Chief Justice.”
