Former Harambee Stars midfielder McDonald Mariga has become a victim of burglary and theft after unknown people gained access into his house and made away with property valued at KSh 2 million.
The burglars gained access into the house in Lavington, Nairobi, and are said to have stolen among others a TV set valued at KSh 500,000 and other goods which add up to the said amount.
Nairobi News reports that the house was not broken into but authorities believe it was an inside job orchestrated by someone who has keys to the house.
The news portal also reports that the former Inter Milan midfielder and his family were not in the house during the incident.
“Looks like someone has a spare key to the house which he used to gain entrance and took the items,” the portal quotes a source privy to the happenings.
Police have begun investigations in a bid to bring the burglars to book.
It can be remembered that in early 2015, Mariga’s brother, Victor Wanyama’s house in England was raided by burglars who stole his KSh 8 millin Range Rover and other valuables.
The vehicle was recovered by authorities.
Wanyama plays for Southampton after signing from Scottish side Celtic.
The two brothers are the only known Kenyan footballers to ever play in big European clubs and exclusively in the Champions League.
They have both scored in the most coveted European club competition.
Recently, Wanyama bought his family in Kenya a car worth KSh 25 million. The car is a Volkswagen Crafter.
The inside of the Volkswagen Crafter shows state-of-the-art luxurious seats well-spaced, with the inside and the floor well carpeted to provide a nice feeling.
Wanyama helped his club finish sixth in the just concluded 2015/2016 season, hence qualifying for Europa League football come next season.
The midfielder has been linked with moves to Tottenham and Arsenal and it remains to be seen whether the moves will materialize.
