Nina, the popular YouTuber behind the Wapendwa Muziki channel, has stirred a conversation on relationships by advising women to “upgrade” their men to match the vision they have for them. Reflecting on her own relationship with her husband, Mesh, Nina revealed how she transformed him from a less polished individual into a successful and accomplished artist. According to Nina, when she first met Mesh, he didn’t have the traits she desired, but she saw potential and took it upon herself to help him grow both personally and professionally.

In a candid video, Nina spoke about how she worked to mold Mesh into the man he is today, sharing how she taught him to sing and guided him in other areas of his career. She emphasized that women should not hesitate to point out what they dislike in their partners, encouraging them to speak up rather than silently endure dissatisfaction. “If you want your man to be a billionaire, groom him to be one,” she stated, explaining that it’s important for women to take an active role in their partners’ development.

Nina’s approach, however, has been met with criticism from some social media users. They have questioned her choice of words, particularly when she referred to Mesh as a “kafukuswi,” a term popularized by Kenyan content creator Andrew Kibe to describe men who lack assertiveness. Nina had used this term when describing a moment where Mesh embarrassed her during a surprise visit from the Wajesus family, where he cried, which she found to be unmanly.

Critics argued that publically criticizing a partner, especially with such derogatory language, was inappropriate. One commenter, @skylar, suggested that Nina should also acknowledge the role Mesh played in boosting her own confidence. Others, like @Monicah, advised that such matters should be dealt with in private, especially in a relationship as public as theirs.

Despite the backlash, Nina clarified her intentions, urging women to take control of their relationships and help shape their partners into better versions of themselves. She argued that this was not about criticizing but about empowerment and growth. “I want my husband to say, when I met Nina, my life changed,” Nina concluded, underscoring the importance of mutual development in relationships.

Mesh, who was previously in a relationship when he first met Nina, has spoken about their eight-year union, reminiscing about how Nina pursued him, leading to his eventual breakup with his previous partner. The couple’s journey from their initial meeting to their current success as partners is a testament to their deep connection and mutual commitment to personal and professional growth.

While Nina’s comments have sparked debate, they bring to light an important discussion on relationships, personal growth, and the dynamics of helping each other evolve into better versions of ourselves.
