The Kenya Police spokesman Charles Owino said that they will launch into the claims obtained from a viral video that has been circulated over the social media showing police officers brutally assaulting university students.

The video shows more than 100 students sleeping on their bellies while anti-riot police officers brutally serving corporal punishment to them using crude weapons.

Other claims accused the police to have had also sexually assaulted the girls while they dispensed them from their hostels.

On the video, Mr. Owino said that police had not independently confirmed whether the video was captured during the Monday’s protests at the university.

Mr. Owino urged any student who could have been attacked to report to the police station and record their statements.

“Investigations into the alleged attack can only be complete if the victims report to us,” he said.

He said that officers involved in quelling riots were not advised to go to the hostels unless it was very necessary.

Rioting students should only be prevented from coming out of the university grounds to cause chaos and destruction. Police should never go to their rooms, Said the spokesperson.
