Police detectives posing as passengers uncovered a new trick rogue matatu operators are using to rob valuables of their passengers.
The suspects operating along Thika Superhighway target their potential victims in the early morning hours and in the late nights.
Victims are tricked to seat in front seat next to the driver, it is there they are forced to surrender their valuables such as money and phones after being threatened with crude weapons.
Victims are then forced to alight from the vehicle as the suspects speed off, at that time of the hour, victims says there is absolutely few people or no one who can help run away from the robbery.
The Matatu touts also frisk the passengers so as to spot their valuables before signalling for a robbery mission.
A report by NTV revealed that so far atleast three suspects had been arrested and set to be charged with a similar case.
