A Kenyan Catholic priest who tried to breathe a fresh air in sermons has been send on leave for a year and told to ‘reconsider his ways’ .
Father Paul Ogallo who was using rap music and drama to attract young generation into church was suspended by the Catholic Church delegation who said that they found an issue with his mode of dressing, singing and method of delivery sermons did not go along with the church’s Liturgical formation.
Confirming the suspension , the head of Homa Bay Catholic Diocese, Bishop Phillip Anyolo added that the priest will remain a church minister even though he will not take part in church active activities such as administering Holy Communion.
An International publication, Catholic Herald also reported that the father had been suspended quoting a reliable source from Kisumu
“There are ways of doing things. There are certain things the Church promotes in the society. If we mix what the secular and church institutions do, then definitely people are going to read different messages,” Father Charles Kochiel (judicial vicar of the Interdiocesan tribunal of Kisumu
) is quoted as saying.
Fr Kochiel added, “People could be looking at it from the social point of view, like bringing people on board, gathering and entertaining people.”
