Mugithi singer Shalkido Ga Cucu was involved in a hit-and-run accident along Thika Road in the early hours of Sunday, October 5, leaving him hospitalised in critical condition. The accident occurred between Githurai and Carwash, just before Roysambu, around 4:42 am, on the highway heading toward Thika Town. Boda boda riders found Shalkido lying on the road and called for help. First responders confirmed that he had been hit from behind and noted that he may have been under the influence at the time.
Popular media personality Oga Obinna, who had been with Shalkido shortly before the accident, shared detailed updates on his condition. Obinna revealed that he trailed Shalkido from a club appearance, stopping at Ruiru Junction to fuel the singer’s motorcycle at 4:07 am before parting ways at Kahawa. At the time, Shalkido was wearing full boda boda gear, including a helmet. Obinna noted confusion over why Shalkido was later found on the returning lane to Thika, as they had expected him to be heading home.
Shalkido was admitted to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital with a broken left leg and multiple internal brain bleeds causing swelling. A neurosurgeon examined him and confirmed that the brain injury is very serious and currently inoperable. Hospital staff have started him on medication, but surgical intervention is not possible at this stage. Efforts to transfer him to another facility were unsuccessful due to the lack of available personnel to provide the necessary documents.
The accident and Shalkido’s critical condition have prompted an outpouring of concern from fans and fellow artists. Social media has been flooded with messages of support, prayers for recovery, and appreciation for Obinna’s assistance.
Authorities continue to investigate the hit-and-run, while fans await further updates on Shalkido’s health. The incident underscores the dangers of road accidents along Thika Road and highlights the urgent need for road safety awareness and timely medical intervention.
