The problems do not end up in the Star Wars universe. People were awakened with the bad news that the director Colin Trevorrow leaves the direction of Star Wars: Episode IX by creative differences with Lucasfilm.
Colin Trevorrow joined Star Wars: Episode IX in the summer of 2015 and has always been very enthusiastic about the project. However, we knew the problems they were having with the development of the script, so Jack Thorne was hired in August to rewrite it.
In an official statement (via THR), Lucasfilm comments that both parties have agreed to separate, as their “ideas for the project are different,” and mention that we would soon have more information about Episode IX.
This output is added to that of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller back in June, who were fired from Han Solo’s film after four months of production. But in this case, replacing Colin Trevorrow should not cause chaos. If the plan is followed, the film should start shooting in January 2018 so that it can meet the release date scheduled for May 2019.
Lucasfilm will have to move quickly to find a replacement that can keep up with them, but we are convinced that they will not lack suitors. After all, Ron Howard quickly replaced Lord and Miller in Han Solo’s spin-off, so the quest to find a new director for Star Wars Episode IX should not be too long. We will be attentive to any new developments.
