Although there are some traffic accidents that occur due to mechanical failures, problems in the routes or poor roads and other reasons that do not depend on the expertise or the responsibility of the driver, the truth is that a large part of the vehicle crashes are caused by human factors that could be avoided.

In YVK we present a list of the 10 most common causes, so that you become aware when driving your car.

1)Use the cell phone or other devices:

According to a study carried out in the Transportation Institute of the Technological University of Virginia, a large part of the auto accidents occur due to the use of the mobile phone when driving.

It is essential that when you are driving your vehicle you focus only on that action and that you do not get distracted by calls or text messages and WhatsApp.

2) Alcohol behind the wheel:

Numerous studies claim that more than 20% of traffic accidents are due to the effects of alcohol when driving. Therefore, if you are going to drink alcohol, do not drive.

And if you’re going to drive, do not drink alcohol.

3) Distractions:

In addition to talking on the phone, there are other distractions that can cause you to have a traffic accident.

Make up in the car, program the GPS, discuss with the passenger or permanently change the volume or frequency of the radio are not compatible with safe driving.

4) Excess speed:

Being in a hurry is not a valid excuse to exceed the speed limit. T

his infraction can not only cause you ends, but it is also very dangerous for you, your companions and the rest of the drivers and pedestrians.

5) Sleep:

If you drive for many hours straight, or drive at night, fatigue can cause reflexes and senses do not act in the same way they would in normal situations.

Therefore, we recommend that if you are tired or drowsy, you stop to rest (sleep a while), take a breath, drink a cup of coffee and stretch your legs a little.

6) Pass the traffic light in network:

Either by distraction or by impatience, passing the traffic light when the light did not turn green is an important infraction that can cause serious accidents. Respect this and all traffic regulations.

7) To overtake another vehicle in inappropriate places:

Overtaking when the route dividing line indicates that this maneuver is prohibited is a very serious error. The same happens in curves, steep climbs and descents, et cetera.

There are also other causes of road accidents that, while not directly dependent on the driver, constitute situations that we can avoid

8) Driving with lots of rain:

If the rain is very intense, the roads gets wet and becomes slippery and the windshield wiper may not be able to cope.

If it rains, drive with caution and do not exceed the speed limits. If the storm is very strong, it is convenient to stop in to safe place and wait for it to happen.

9) Driving in the dark or with fog:

If during the night, on a poorly lit road visibility is very low, the risk of accident will double. The same happens with fog. Both cases require maximizing precautions.

10) Mechanical failures:

Tires or brakes in poor condition, damaged lights and other broken or damaged items can be a cause of serious accident.

To avoid this, remember to perform preventive maintenance on your vehicle and comply with official services as indicated in the factory manual.
