South African Amapiano sensation Lungelihle Zwane, famously known as Uncle Waffles, has expressed her disappointment following chaos at her much-anticipated performance in Kenya on November 30, 2024.
The concert, held at the ASK Dome along Ngong Road, drew a crowd of over 10,000 eager fans. However, the night was overshadowed by reports of poor organisation, security mishandling, and unsafe conditions that escalated into chaos, prompting police to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.
What Went Wrong at the Event?
Fans reported being pushed around, mistreated by security personnel, and subjected to unsafe conditions. These issues led Uncle Waffles to halt her set mid-performance out of concern for the audience’s safety.
In a heartfelt statement, Uncle Waffles expressed her frustration:
“I am extremely disappointed and shattered by the way the event was handled, which is something I had been looking forward to for a while. From sound issues even before my performance to my team being mishandled, this wasn’t something I expected at all.”
Concern for Fans’ Safety
Uncle Waffles was particularly disheartened by the treatment of her Kenyan supporters, emphasizing the importance of their well-being:
“People were pushed around, mishandled, and treated with the least amount of care. This is something I will not stand for. The safety and well-being of people who came out to support me and this genre is my top priority.”
She stopped her performance when she noticed people were visibly uncomfortable and at risk of injury.
Calling Out the Organisers
Uncle Waffles did not hold back in addressing the event organisers, accusing them of failing to adequately plan and execute the event:
“You have let down the 10,000+ people who came out in support of this event.”
She urged organisers to improve their systems if they wished to host similar events in the future.
A Promise to Return
Despite the ordeal, Uncle Waffles shared her love and gratitude for her Kenyan fans and promised to return under better circumstances.
The incident has sparked widespread discussions on the need for improved event management in the region, especially for large-scale concerts. Fans are hopeful that future performances will prioritize their safety and enjoyment.
