Atleast 8 people were feared dead after a deadly accident which happened during the car racing event at Oldonyosambu area on the Arusha-Namanga road in Tanzania during a street racing event.
Two saloon cars collided and veered off the road straight into spectators, this was according to Arusha Police Commander Jonathan Shanna.
The victims of the accidents, were from both Kenya and Tanzania who had attended the race dubbed ‘Arusha Drive 3’ with the tag line ‘The road will never be the same again’
Photos from the scene of accidents showed lifeless bodies lying on the ground as rescue operations took place.
Some of the accident victims were from prominent political families in Kenya.
Contrary to the reports that the event was illegal, Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai and Kajiado Deputy County Commissioner Charles Wambugu appeared to suggest that the authorities had been informed of the event.
