Walid Ahmed
Engaging the community to promote peace: Walid Ahmed is the Founder and Chairman of Lamu Youth Alliance which unites youth, gives them a voice and representation and encourages them to actively participate in decision making processes. Walid has been instrumental in promoting a peaceful dialogue in policy planning, organizing community capacity building processes and developing strategies on sustainable development. A civic leader and Community Resource Person, Walid is also a Social Scientist involved in promoting human rights and ensuring the reduction of human suffering.
Walid holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Development Studies from the Technical University of Mombasa. He also has interests in agriculture and is preparing an agribusiness center in Langoni in Lamu County.
As a YALI Fellow, Walid will empower his fellow youth in leadership skills. He will focus on building capacity and bringing positive change.
