The University of Maine is offering a limited number of International Presidential Scholarships. These scholarships are available for outstanding students to pursue an undergraduate degree program.
The University of Maine is a public research university located in Orono, Maine, United States. The university was established in 1865 as a land grant college and is the flagship university of the University of Maine System.
All applicants are required to submit a language proficiency: TOEFL: minimum score of 79 (iBT) or 550 (iTP), institution code 3916 and IELTS: minimum score of 6.5.
Applicants from non-English speaking countries must furnish proof of their proficiency in English. There are two major tests for this purpose, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and tests from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing the undergraduate program.
Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study the subjects offered by the university.
Scholarship Award: Each scholarship is valued at $25,000 per academic year. For students receiving the Undergraduate Canadian Resident tuition rate, the scholarship will be prorated to $15,000.
Scholarship can be taken in the USA
Eligibility: Scholarships are primarily limited to first-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate foreign nationals who qualify for the F-1 or J-1 student visa. Recipients of the award will be required to maintain their status as full-time students at the University of Maine. For students receiving the Undergraduate Canadian Resident tuition rate, the scholarship will be prorated to $15,000.
Nationality: International students can apply for these scholarships.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Students must maintain full-time enrollment and a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 3.00 in order for the scholarship to be renewed.
Test Requirement: University requires Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. They do not have a fixed minimum score for admittance, however, the average GRE scores are Verbal = 162; Quantitative = 159.
English Language Requirement: All applicants are required to submit a language proficiency:
- TOEFL: minimum score of 79 (iBT) or 550 (iTP), institution code 3916
- IELTS: minimum score of 6.5
- CEFR – Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: completed level C1.
- Waived language test if:
Native speaker of English (e.g., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, U.K.)
SAT Verbal score is 550 or higher
ACT English score is 24 or higher
High school transcript clearly states that English is the language of instruction of all subjects
Student studying in the U.S. or Canada for two or more years and not in an ESL track
The student has successfully passed an English Composition course at a U.S. institution with a grade of C or higher, even if the student has not studied in the U.S. for two or more years.
How to Apply: To be considered for the International Presidential Scholarship, applicants must complete a University of Maine admission application and submit an International Presidential Scholarship Application application by February 1 each year for a fall-semester start.
Application Deadline: To be considered, applicants must have a completed University of Maine application and a completed International Presidential Scholarship application on file by February 1.
