A police from Marigat was followed up by journalists from The Standard who established that he turned a patrol GK vehicle into a PSV and ferried atleast 10 stranded travelers from Marigat bus station to Nakuru town and charged them almost double fare.
The travelers paid sh.400 instead of the usual sh.200 on the 100K stretch
The vehicle in question the Land Cruiser with registration number GKB 689 was reported to Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Francis Munyambu who said that the officers acted against the police regulations and conduct.
Police vehicles are meant for official duties and not for conducting transport business. We are investigating the matter and action will be taken against officers involved,” Munyambu said.
Former Presidential candidate Abduba Dida noted that the government should address corruption in police before addressing rot in transport sector
It is a good thing to implement Michuki rules but can we maintain them? To implement something, you use a strategy not an order. The same police officers who are now arresting operators all over the country are the very same underpaid ones who will be taking bribes tomorrow,” Dida tweeted in a statement published on his Twitter account.
