Through Education County Executive Janet Ouko, Nairobi county has banned all nursery school graduation ceremonies from taking place.

In her circular Memo, she explained that the administrations were frustrating Governor Mike Sonko’s move to make ECDE program absolutely free.

“We have noted with concern that schools are planning ECDE graduations and charging parents between Sh 1,000 and Sh 1,500. This is against the spirit of free ECDE which is being offered by the governor of Nairobi County… This is therefore to communicate a ban on all ECDE graduation ceremonies especially if they attract a charge,” read a section of the circular.

As a norm, these early childhood education centres have had graduation moments at the end of third term to enable their pupils to grace over to the Primary schools.

Kids would put on even graduation gowns in company of parents, relatives, guardian and friends
