Watson Karuma

An ardent sports fan and experienced journalist: Watson Karuma is the Sports Editor at the Nation Media Group’s broadcasting division, NTV. Watson has over 10 years’ experience reporting sports news and has received the Best Sports Reporting Award from the Media Council of Kenya.

Beyond his passion for reporting sports, Watson is involved in a youth program in Nairobi and Kiambu counties. He is a part of a football team designed for young players to enjoy the sport, and also to receive guidance and counseling. Many of the young players are unemployed, and he has leased land for them to practice farming so they can learn to sustain themselves. Watson recognizes that not all individuals are athletes so he provides various opportunities for them to stay active in a positive ways.

As a YALI Fellow, Watson plans to develop his youth club project into a sustainable youth academy. He knows the importance of networking in his life and looks forward to the opportunities awaiting him by meeting new people and having new experiences.

Youth Village Kenya acknowledge Watson as he meets other Fellows and builds lasting relationships. Congratulations Watson!
