The end-to-end encryption of WhatsApp ensures that only you and whoever receives the message can read what is being sent, with the guarantee that not even WhatsApp itself can access that data.
The messages are secured with locks, and of these, only the receiver and you will know the codes / keys to open them and read the messages.
The best thing is that all this happens without you noticing, because they are automatic processes . From now on you will not have to make any adjustments or do anything extraordinary to secure your messages.
What is ‘end-to-end’ encryption on WhatsApp
Each of your chats has a unique security code that can be found on the contact information screen, such as a QR code and another as a 60-digit code .
These codes are exclusive for each of the WhatsApp chats and can be compared with the data that, in turn, your contacts have.
Keep in mind that, for added security, security codes are visible versions of the secret keys between you and your contacts and yourself. The encryption code is absolutely secret.
To confirm that a chat is encrypted
end-to-end you have to follow these steps:
- Open a chat
- Press the name of the contact to go to the information screen
- Press “Encryption” to see the QR code or the 60 digits.
But this is even simpler, because the procedure is much simpler if you have your contact physically with your lad, or since you can scan each other’s QR code or, failing that, compare the 60-digit security code between a device and the other.
If the QR codes match, a green tick will appear and you can be sure that nobody will be intercepting your messages or your calls.
It may happen that the codes do not match and it is likely that you are scanning the QR code of another contact or that particular contact has recently reinstalled WhatsApp, or that your phone is different.
It is advisable to resend the code immediately.
If you are not physically present with your contact, you can send them a 60-digit code to make an end-to-end encryption virtually.
Your contact should know that once you have received the code you have to compare it with the 60-digit code that appears on the contact information screen by clicking on “Encryption”.
