Life After Divorce

Bernice moved to the U.S. in 2018 following the breakdown of her marriage. Six months later, she returned to Kenya to bring her children to join her abroad. However, the transition proved challenging for her sons.

“When they came, they were very shocked. I had a two-bedroom apartment. In Kenya, they lived in a five-bedroom house, and everyone had his bedroom,” Bernice shared in a candid Instagram post. Adjusting to a new environment and lifestyle was difficult for the boys, who initially wanted to return to Kenya.

Despite the hardships, Bernice has consistently prioritized her children’s welfare. She often calls out their father for abandoning his responsibilities and has taken the legal route to ensure her children receive the support they need.

Seeking Justice

In a video shared online, Bernice was seen visiting a lawyer with the support of her friend Sarah Kabu. During the consultation, she expressed her desire for full custody, explaining that her ex has failed to meet his obligations.

The lawyer noted that courts prioritize the children’s best interests and emphasized the father’s responsibility to contribute financially, regardless of the separation. Bernice also revealed that renewing her children’s passports has been difficult due to her ex-husband’s unwillingness to sign the necessary documents.

“Thanks, Sarah Kabu, for walking me through this process. Child support is a must,” she said.

Resonating with Many

Bernice’s story has struck a chord with many women who face similar challenges. Social media users have flooded her posts with comments, sharing their experiences and seeking advice.

  • “I am raising my child alone. Women go through a lot,” one user commented.
  • “How does one even start the process?” another inquired.

Addressing Trolls

Despite criticism from some quarters, Bernice has made it clear that she did not choose to become a single mother. Responding to accusations of misleading others, she stated, “I was legally married and never, at any point, chose to walk out of my marriage.”

A Message of Hope

Bernice’s journey is a testament to the resilience of single mothers determined to provide for their children despite difficult circumstances. Her legal battle underscores the importance of accountability in co-parenting and has sparked a broader conversation about child support and parental responsibilities.

As she continues her fight, Bernice has become a voice for women navigating similar struggles, offering both inspiration and practical advice.
