How many of us have not envied another woman knowing that she just committed to a handsome man? However, according to science, being married to someone “good to see” might not be so positive.
According to researchers at Florida State University, women who marry an attractive man are more likely to suffer from problems with food.
Tania Reynolds, Ph.D. in Psychology and leader of that group of researchers, says that women whose husbands are physically graceful feel that they should be just as attractive as they are.
This leads them to start a rigorous diet and the obsession to lose weight makes them vulnerable (coupled with low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, emotional problems, etc.) to suffer some eating disorder.
According to Reynolds, husbands play a crucial role in preventing this behavior. How? Reaffirming to their wives how beautiful they are and letting them know how much they like their body as it is.
This finding can contribute to the formulation of measures so that women are not prey to eating disorders or destructive behaviors that affect their well-being.
