The tears of women contain a chemical signal that lowers levels of testosterone and reduces sexual desire of men, according to a study by Israeli scientists.
The effect of women’s tears in the study, could give science the biological reason why humans produces tears when we are sad or stressed.
Researchers measured magnetic resonance imaging of men’s brain activity by seeing a woman crying and smelling tears nearby.
The images revealed that the tears reduced the sexual desire of the men, but it was believed that the responsible chemists could act by suppressing the aggression, which caused the decrease of the libido.
“It’s easy to see the advantage of having this type of chemical signal in tears,” said Noam Sobel, research leader at the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel.
“Basically, you protect yourself when you’re vulnerable,” the science journal Science Magazine reported.
